Results of a new reading survey

Results of a new reading survey

The National and University Library of Iceland is participating in a survey of Icelanders' attitudes towards reading, libraries and more.

Results show that reading is increasing between years and that listening to audiobooks is increasing significantly. The most productive readers are women and families with children. Just over 60% read only or more often in Icelandic and around 76% of respondents believe it is important to support Icelandic book publishing. 52.7% of respondents used library services last year. Women aged 35-44 are the most diligent in using libraries and people in the capital area use libraries more than people in rural areas. People with two or more children in the home are the most diligent in using libraries, as are people in education and retirees.
