The European cultural portal Europeana has now received a new interface that aims to make it easier for users to access digital reproductions of collections across Europe. Among the innovations are a flexible interface for smartphones and tablets and a more user-friendly search.
Metadata in Europeana is now released under a special license, CC0, or Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License. Europeana also offers a programming interface so that others can build applications that use the portal's services.
Hundreds of cultural institutions in Europe contribute content to Europeana. Among them are two Icelandic institutions: the National Library of Iceland – University Library and the Icelandic Institute of Natural History.
