The exhibition And His Wife is organized by Equality Days at the University of Iceland and the Icelandic Women's History Museum at the National Library of Iceland – University Library.
The exhibition is in the lobby of the National Library from February 10–14. It features photographs from the collection of the Women's History Museum along with text works and clippings.
Also performed at the exhibition at lunchtime every day will be the sound work Og kona hans by Eirík Stephensen and Margréti Kristínu Blöndal, which is one of four works that belonged to the sound installation Hljóðrás daðanns which was performed in Hólavallagarður from 19–22 August 2023.
The work is inspired by the well-known inscription “…and his wife” – which was common on tombstones in earlier times and was descriptive of the status of women. The work ends with a funeral hymn dedicated to men with given names, family names and professional titles… and their wives.
