400 years have passed since the birth of Reverend Páll Björnsson (1621–1706), a priest and deacon in Selárdalur near Arnarfjörður. His life can best be described as a tragedy, despite the fact that he was in a privileged position all his life. He was a prolific scholar and many manuscripts from his possession are in the manuscript collection, but Páll is most remembered for burning seven people at the stake during the height of the Burning Age. Gunnar Marel Hinriksson, a specialist in the manuscript collection of the National and University Library of Iceland, compiled the material in the exhibition.
