The history of Icelandic printing presses

The exhibition Printing Works Copies features a copy from every printing house in the country since printing began in Iceland around 1530. There you can see 137 books and pamphlets from the collection of Svan Jóhannesson, as well as important books from the history of printing in private ownership and in the possession of the National Library of Iceland – University Library.
The exhibition also features several books that have been translated into Chinese. They are owned by Bjarni Harðarson, Svan Jóhannesson, and the National and University Library of Iceland.
In continuation of his collection and in connection with the exhibition, Svanur Jóhannesson published the book Prentsmiðjueintök – Prentsaga Íslands with information about printing houses and publications.
The exhibition runs until September 6th.
