    Jón Árnason's printing press manuscript returned from Bavaria



    On November 14, the German Ambassador to the Minister of Culture and Trade presented Jón Árnason's printed manuscript of Icelandic Folklore and Fairy Tales for preservation at the National Library at a ceremonial ceremony. The manuscript was long thought to be lost but was discovered in the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek in Munich in 1971, where it has been preserved ever since. Addresses were given by Lilja Dögg Alfreðsdóttir, Minister of Culture and Trade, Clarissa Duvigneau, German Ambassador, Ingibjörg Steinunn Sverrisdóttir, National Librarian, Örn Hrafnkelsson, Director of Preservation at the National Library, and Vilhjálmur Bjarnason, the project's initiator.
