National access to electronic databases and journals – hvar.is recently signed an agreement with Springer Publishing to purchase new e-books. Access is already available to around 1000 titles and around 2000 will be added this year. The books are in the following fields of study: Humanities, Social Science & Law; Business and Economics; Computer Science; Biomedical and Life Science; Earth and Environmental Science.

For now, the books will only be accessible on the SpringerLink search engine, where they are hidden among a number of other publications that are not accessible. They are in PDF file format that can be saved to your own computer, read on e-readers, smartphones, tablets, or other devices that support the PDF file format.  

The e-books will soon be made available in more places than on the SpringerLink website, but a link to it can be found on the Landsaðgangshvar.is website and under Electronic data here on the museum's website.

In addition, Springer is offering access this year to almost 200 reference books in electronic format in SpringerReference in the fields of Behavioral Science; Biomedical and Life Sciences; Business and Economics; Chemistry and Material Science; Computer Science; Earth and Environmental Science; Engineering; Humanities, Social Sciences and Law; Mathematics and Statistics; Medicine; Physics and Astronomy.
