The Swedish book history magazine Biblis from the beginning

The Swedish book history magazine Biblis from the beginning

On October 13th, Steingrímur Jónsson donated to the National Library the Swedish book history magazine Biblis, which has been published since 1957.

The annual publication was initially published by the Icelandic Book Crafts Association until 1997. Then the Royal Library of Sweden’s Association of Booksellers – also known as Biblis – took over publishing and made the publication a quarterly. Since then, 110 issues have been published, the latest this summer.

Biblis is today the only book history magazine published in the Nordic countries after Nordisk tidskrift för bok- och biblioteksväsen closed down about 20 years ago after being published for almost a hundred years.

It goes without saying that many leading scholars in the field of Swedish book history have contributed to Biblis over the years, because in addition to traditional book history, the articles discuss book-related cultural and historical topics in the broadest sense.

The National Library of Iceland recently subscribed to a digital version of the latest volumes of Biblis. Now the entire publication is virtually accessible in the library.
