Tasteless 30 years old

    Tasteless 30 years old

On Thursday, September 7, 2017, an exhibition was opened at the National Library to mark the 30th anniversary of the publishing company Smekkleysa. The first Smekkleysa publication was a postcard published on the occasion of the summit in Höfði in the fall of 1986. The proceeds from the sale were used to finance Sykurmolann's first album, which included the song "ammäli". In the fall of 1987, the song was released in the UK, and Smekkleysa's motto, "world domination or death", took on new meaning following the success that Sykurmolann enjoyed in the following years and, subsequently, other Icelandic artists. The exhibition features a selection of posters and other publications from the 1980s, also in the run-up to the founding of Smekkleysa when Grammið, Medúsa, Eskvímó and others published material by artists who belonged to the so-called new wave and had adopted a kind of self-sufficiency outside of traditional publishing companies, which became the basis for the founding of Smekkleysa.

The exhibition ran until March 5, 2018.
