On September 21, 2015, an exhibition about the Spanish Civil War of 1615 was opened at the National Library of Iceland to mark the 400th anniversary of these events. This is a traveling exhibition that has been on display this summer in four locations in the country and also in the Basque Country of Spain. The exhibition is organized by the Basque Friends of Iceland in collaboration with the Basque Etxepare Institute, the Center for Basque Studies, the Barandarian Chair for Basque Studies, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Culture, the Westfjords Development Fund, the Westfjords Growth Agreement, and the National Library of Iceland – University Library. The exhibition includes three manuscripts of “A True Account of the Spanish Shipwrecks and Battles” by the learned Jón Guðmundsson, which are preserved in a total of nine manuscripts in the manuscript collection of the National Library of Iceland – University Library. The exhibition text was written by Sigrún Antonsdóttir and the exhibition is part of her final theses for her MA degree in applied cultural communication. Guillermo Zubiaga made the drawings. Úlfur Kolka designed the exhibition. The exhibition runs until October 21st.
