The museum's new open access policy was approved by the Executive Board on November 28. The museum became a party to the Berlin Declaration in 2012.

The policy states that the National Library of Iceland – University Library supports open access to content and data on the Internet. The library actively promotes open access to the nation's cultural heritage, research results and academic material in Iceland.
