On Friday, October 6, Benedikt Gröndal's birthday, an exhibition about Benedikt Gröndal was opened at the museum in collaboration with Reykjavík UNESCO City of Literature. The program began at Gröndal's house in Fishersund, where Þórarinn Eldjárn told about a torchlight procession that took place at Gröndal's house on his eightieth birthday in 1906, when his students from the Lærðir School of Education took part in the torchlight procession. Actor Sigurður Skúlason also read a poem by Gröndal.
Afterwards, a torchlight procession was held from Gröndalshús to Benedikt's grave in Hólavallir Cemetery on Suðurgata, where Þórarinn Eldjárn read a memorial message about the poet by Þorsteinn Erlingsson, and father and son Skúli Jónsson and Jón Pétur Skúlason laid flowers on their ancestor's grave.
From there we headed to the National Library where an exhibition was opened about Benedikt's life and work with a selection of his manuscripts. The authors of the exhibition Guðrún Laufey Guðmundsdóttir and Halldóra Kristinsdóttir spoke about Gröndal and his manuscript legacy. Finally, Teitur Magnússon performed his song "Nenni" to Gröndal's poems.
