Third floor
Newspapers and journals
Newspapers and journals in print are on the 3rd floor of the National and University Library.
The library has access to a number of journals and newspapers in printed and electronic versions. The library receives foreign journals in various fields of study by subscription, and it also receives all printed Icelandic journals and newspapers through legal deposits as a national library. This includes newsletters, yearbooks, school magazines and newspapers.
Course reserve
Teachers are able to reserve materials from the library's collection, have materials purchased or obtained from elsewhere, and/or have materials from a private collection placed on display in the Course reserve for teaching in individual courses. Photocopied materials related to individual courses can also be stored in the Course reserve. During the duration of a course, the publications in question are either for use in the library or loaned out for one to fourteen days.
Loans from the Course reserve are subject to presentation of a library card, just like other loans. Students and teachers at the University of Iceland receive library cards free of charge.
The libguide for the Course reserve contains more detailed information about the library and lists of reserved textbooks for each course.

final theses of students from the University of Iceland
Until the end of 2015, the museum received a printed copy of the final theses of students at the University of Iceland for preservation. The final theses are stored in a closed space on the 3rd floor, some of which must be retrieved from storage. They are not loaned out but are for on-site use only. Photocopying of final theses is prohibited without the permission of the authors.
Theses written before 1990 have been transferred to the National Archives of Iceland, where they are preserved as part of the University of Iceland archives. These theses will in the future be available for viewing in the National Archives' reading room.
Starting in 2016, students will only submit an electronic copy of their final theses to the Skemman electronic repository, where final theses from students at the University of Iceland have been stored since 2008.
You can search for final theses by university students at leitir.is , lbs.leitir.is and in the electronic archive of Icelandic universities skemman.is.
