
The May Star, the poetry book award of the National Library of Iceland – University Library and the Icelandic Writers' Association, will be awarded for the fourth time in May.
Nominations for the May Star for a book of poetry published in 2019 were presented at a ceremony in Gunnarshús on May 7th.
The nominees are:
- Jónas Reynir Gunnarsson – Laundry Day (Easter Island)
- Kristín Eiríksdóttir – The Boyfriend is a Clear (JPV)
- Sigurlín Bjarney Gísladóttir – The Wonder Room (Language and Culture)
- Thordur Saevar Jonsson – Vellankatla (Partus)
- Thor Stefansson – Rebellion (Odd)
The nominated books are all on display in the lobby of the National Library.
All published Icelandic poetry books of 2019 that were submitted to the National Library of Iceland – University Library were eligible for consideration and were presented to a jury for consideration. The jury consists of Guðrún Steinþórsdóttir on behalf of the Icelandic Writers' Association and Arnaldur Sigurðsson on behalf of the National Library.
The award will be presented at a ceremony at the National Library later in May. The prize money is 350 thousand krónur.
The May Star is the only award in Iceland that is given exclusively for a published Icelandic book of poetry. The award is intended to draw special attention to the thriving poetry publishing industry in Iceland.
