    Nominations for the May Star 2020



    The May Star, the poetry book prize of the National Library of Iceland – University Library and the Icelandic Writers' Association, will be awarded for the fifth time in May.
    Nominations for the May Star for a book of poetry published in 2020 were presented at a ceremony in Gunnarshús on April 27th.

    The nominated books are:
    Nerve impulses on a power line by Arndís Lóu Magnúsdóttir. Publisher: Una Publishing House.
    Dreaming by Gyrður Elíasson. Publisher: Dimma.
    Silence by Halla Þórlaug Óskarsdóttir. Publisher: Benedikt.
    Still lifes by Linda Vilhjálmsdóttir. Publisher: Mál og menning.
    1900 and something by Ragnheiður Lárusdóttir. Publisher: Bjartur.

    The nominated books are all on display in the lobby of the National Library. All published Icelandic poetry books of the year 2020 that were returned to the National Library of Iceland – University Library were eligible for consideration and were given to the jury for consideration. The jury consists of Sverrir Norland on behalf of the Icelandic Writers' Association and María Logn Kristínardóttir Ólafsdóttir on behalf of the National Library.

    The award will be presented at a ceremony at the National Library on June 8. The prize money is 350 thousand ISK. 

    The May Star is the only award in Iceland that is given exclusively for a published Icelandic book of poetry. The award is intended to draw special attention to the thriving poetry publishing industry in Iceland.
