    Turning Points in European History: Looking Back at the Years 1814 and 1815
    The Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies holds a symposium
    in the National Library, lecture hall on the 2nd floor,
    Saturday, April 18, 2015

    The symposium begins at 1:30 PM and ends no later than 4:15 PM.
    Four talks will be given as follows:

    The Peace of Wedges, January 14, 1814: What happened?
    Why didn't Iceland follow Norway?
    Anna Agnarsdóttir , professor of history

    The separation of Denmark and Norway in the fateful year of 1814: Tragic news or joyful event?
    The attitude of Icelandic officials towards political upheavals in the Danish state.
    Margrét Gunnarsdóttir , doctoral student in history

    The presentation of each talk takes about 20 minutes.
    About 10 minutes will be given for questions and discussion after each presentation. 

    During the break, refreshments will be served in front of the lecture hall.
