On Thursday, May 3, Einar Sigurðsson, former National Librarian, will deliver the talk "Unification of Museums and New Buildings" in the lecture series Tímanna safn , which is being held on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the National Library of Iceland - University Library.
The abstract of the talk states:
"The events leading up to the merger of the National Library of Iceland and the University Library are reviewed, as well as the slow progress of the construction of a new building at Arngrímsgata 3 for the merged library. It describes how the size of the building and the type of building were shaped during the design period, including in light of developments in information technology, and describes the involvement of the museum staff in this work. Reference is made to the legislation governing the new library and its naming. In order to assess whether the right course was taken by merging the two libraries, the main issues of the new library in its first years are outlined, not least those relating to online access to the knowledge that the library is intended to convey."
The talk will be given in the National Library's lecture hall between 12:05 and 12:45.
You are all very welcome.
