There will be readings from poetry books that have been nominated for the May Star Poetry Prize in the National Library's lecture hall at noon, 12-1 p.m., Wednesday, May 8.
The nominated books are:
Before I Change by Elías Knörr
Quasar/While the Glass Sleeps by Gyrður Elíasson
My Friends' Problems by Harpa Rún Kristjánsdóttir
Flagsól by Melkorka Ólafsdóttir and Una Hlíf Bárudóttir
Congratulations on being human by Sigridur Soffia Níelsdóttir
In the Dark I Went to Mary by Sonja B. Jónsdóttir
The Maístjarnan Poetry Prize is the only prize in Iceland that is awarded exclusively for a published Icelandic book of poetry. Nominated books are on display at the entrance to the National Library's lecture hall.
All published Icelandic poetry books of the year 2023, a total of 83, that were submitted to the National Library of Iceland – University Library were eligible.
The jury is composed of Guðrún Eva Mínervudóttir on behalf of the Icelandic Writers' Association and Jakub Stachowiak on behalf of the National and University Library of Iceland.
The award will be presented at a ceremony at the National Library on May 15th.
