Information and Media Literacy Week

    Information and Media Literacy Week

Information and Media Literacy Week will be held for the first time in Iceland from 13-17 February 2023. The week is being organised by the Information and Media Literacy Network (TUMI) with funding from the Ministry of Higher Education, Industry and Innovation and Sóley, a grant fund run by the Association of Municipalities in the Capital Region. The National Library of Iceland – University Library’s representative in the network is specialist Hilma Gunnarsdóttir.

This week, new educational material on media literacy for middle school (grades 5-7) will be introduced and made available to all schools in the country. These are six short educational videos related to media literacy. Each video is accompanied by discussion points and teaching guidelines to help teachers have conversations with students about responsible phone and internet use.

One of the highlights of the week is a symposium on information and media literacy that will be held in Gróska on Thursday, February 16th, from 9:00-12:00. The symposium will include panel discussions on media literacy from various perspectives, with Ingibjörg S. Sverrisdóttir, National Librarian, as one of the participants. Registration for the symposium and information about the week can be found here .

You can read more about media literacy and networking on the Media Commission's website.
