
The 13th International Open Access Week was held from 19 to 25 October 2020. The theme of this year's week was Open with Purpose: Taking Action to Build Structural Equity and Inclusion. University libraries in Iceland came together and published articles related to open access during the week.
The museum shared the articles on its website daily.
Of particular note is the article by Sigurgeir Finnsson, open access project manager at the National and University Library of Iceland, Yellow, gold, green and bronze , which discusses open access and the complex spectrum of publishing.
Other articles that appeared were:
- The article by Rósa Bjarnadóttir, library of the Iceland Academy of the Arts, #HvarerOAstefnan? discusses the importance of the Icelandic government establishing a targeted policy on open access to research results.
- Why does it cost 5000 krónur to read a scientific article? is the title of an article by Guðrún Þórðardóttir, librarian at the Agricultural University of Iceland, which discusses overpricing and the publisher's monopoly on scientific knowledge.
- Þórný Hlynsdóttir, from the Bifröst University Library, discusses activists Aaron Schwarz and Alexandra Elbakyan and their fight for open access to scientific material in her article The Pirate Queen and the Hacker .
- Sara Stef. Hildardóttir, a librarian at Reykjavík University, discusses the importance of Open Access in the Covid era and how unsustainable the current publishing system for scientific material is in her article Covid, Open Access and the Non-Circular Economy .
