Watson Collection
In 1975, the British and Icelander Richard Mark Watson (1906–1979) donated his library on Iceland and Icelandic affairs in foreign languages to the National Museum of Iceland. Among the works in the collection is a complete edition of William Morris's works and many rare travel books that make the collection unique. It also contains many books about the Faroe Islands. Mark Watson was well known in Iceland for his interest in Icelandic animals, and he collected information about the Icelandic dog, among other things, and the results of this can be found in his book The Iceland Dog 874-1956. The Watson Animal Hospital is his gift to the Icelandic nation. He also donated over a hundred watercolours by WG Collingwood to the National Museum of Iceland.
