Centenary of a pioneer

On September 28, on the centenary of the death of the world-renowned pioneer in the field of geology and natural sciences Þorvaldur Thoroddsen, a seminar was held and an exhibition opened at the National Library.
 
The symposium was hosted by the Icelandic Museum of Natural History, the Icelandic Natural History Society and the National and University Library of Iceland in collaboration with the Icelandic Institute of Natural History, the Icelandic Meteorological Office, the Icelandic Literary Society, the Geoscience Society of Iceland, the Icelandic Biological Society, the Icelandic Glaciological Society and the Icelandic Science Society.
 
The exhibition includes objects and photographs owned by the National Museum of Iceland, medals in the keeping of the Central Bank of Iceland, a statue and a geological map property of the Icelandic Museum of Natural History and books from the National and University Library of Iceland.

The exhibition runs until 18th of March 2022.
