The acknowledgement of Hagþenkir was awarded at a ceremony in The National and University Library of Iceland on 28 February 2014. Hagþenkir´s report reads as follows: „Substantial and well integrated work which helps the reader to appreciate the role of the turf houses in the Icelandic heritage“. Hjörleifur is born in 1947, he graduated from Reykjavik Junior College in 1967 and completed a degree in architecture at The University in Trondheim, Norges Tekniske Högskole, in 1972. He has written a number of books on the art and history of building. A small exhibition related to his work has been installed at The National and University Library.
