On Halldór Laxness' birthday, April 23, an exhibition was opened in the museum to mark the centenary of Child of Nature, Halldór's first novel. The exhibition is entitled To Be Kind or Go Away? and is a collaborative project between the National and University Library of Iceland, Gljúfrastein, Reykjavík UNESCO City of Literature and the Publishing House. The Museum Board and the Friends of Gljúfrastein support the project. The exhibition's texts are written by scholars and artists. Haukur Ingvarsson writes about the novel Child of Nature, Halldór Guðmundsson writes about the child Halldór Laxness, who was only sixteen years old when he wrote the story. Kristín Marja Baldursdóttir discusses art in Iceland in 1919, Árni Heimir Ingólfsson about the music of the time and Sjón about films. Auður Jónsdóttir writes about the family in Laxnes and Unnar Örn about book publishing at the turn of the century.
