    China and Iceland – relations between friendly nations – lecture series at the National Library



    A lecture series is currently underway at the National Library of Iceland, hosted by the National Library of Iceland – University Library, together with the Chinese Embassy, ​​the Confucius Institute in Northern Lights, and the Chinese-Icelandic Cultural Association, on relations between Iceland and China. The lecture series will take place at lunchtime next Tuesday and is linked to an exhibition at the National Library of Iceland, see: https://landsbokasafn.is/index.php/news/977/56/KiNA-OG-iSLAND-samskipti-vinathjoda

    The schedule of the lecture series is as follows:

    January 17th, 12-1 pm: Media personality Egill Helgason presented “14 years in China – A film about the missionary Ólaf Ólafsson” which Guðbergur Davíðsson made together with Agil.

    January 24th 12-13: Qi Huimin, Chinese director of the Northern Lights Confucius Institute, discussed one of the oldest preserved forms of Chinese opera, Kunqu. The talk was delivered in English.

    January 31st at 12-13: Hjálmar W. Hannesson, the first Icelandic ambassador based in China, will talk about the embassy's activities from 1995-1998.

    February 7th 12-13: Ólafur Egilsson, Ambassador to Beijing 1998-2002, will give a talk on "Relations between Iceland and China through the ages"

    February 14th, 12-1pm: Arnþór Helgason, chairman of the Chinese-Icelandic Cultural Association and goodwill ambassador, spoke about the activities of the Chinese-Icelandic Cultural Association.

    February 28th at 12-13: Magnús Björnsson, director of the Confucius Institute at Northern Lights, spoke about the work of the institute.

    March 7, 12-1 p.m.: Unnur Guðjónsdóttir will give a talk on "China, a country in transition".       

    March 14th at 12-13: Film scholar and writer Oddný Sen talks about her grandmother and namesake, Oddný Erlendsdóttir Sen, who lived in China in the 1930s and wrote a book about China. Oddný then wrote another book about her grandmother and her stay in China.

    March 28th at 12-13: Zhang Weidong, Ambassador of China to Iceland, will deliver the closing lecture of the lecture series: “How to drink Chinese Tea and Tea ceremony”. The lecture will be given in English. A short documentary about Chinese tea culture will be shown and two artists will perform a tea ceremony at the end of the lecture. Guests will have the opportunity to taste tea made by the artists. Teapots from the Unnar China Museum will be on display.
