Nominations for the 2024 May Star Poetry Prize were presented at Gunnarshús on Wednesday, April 17, 2024. 

The nominated books are: 

Before I Change by Elías Knörr

Quasar/While the Glass Sleeps by Gyrður Elíasson

My Friends' Problems by Harpa Rún Kristjánsdóttir

Flagsól by Melkorka Ólafsdóttir and Una Hlíf Bárudóttir

Congratulations on being human by Sigridur Soffia Níelsdóttir

In the Dark I Went to Mary by Sonja B. Jónsdóttir

The Maístjarnan Poetry Prize is the only prize in Iceland awarded exclusively for a published Icelandic book of poetry. Nominated books are now on display in the lobby of the National Library. 

All published Icelandic poetry books of the year 2023, a total of 83, that were returned to the National Library of Iceland – University Library were eligible and a list of them is included in the exhibition.

The award will be presented at a ceremony at the National Library on May 15th.

The jury is composed of Guðrún Eva Mínervudóttir on behalf of the Icelandic Writers' Association and Jakub Stachowiak on behalf of the National and University Library of Iceland.
