The Hagþenki Award for the year of publication 2023 was given to Ólafur Gestur Arnalds for the publication Mold ert þú – Jarðvegur og íslensk náttúra. The publisher is Iðnú. The Hagþenki Award Committee's concluding remarks about the publication state:

"A major work in the field of natural and environmental science with an emphasis on the uniqueness of Icelandic soil. The importance of soil in dryland ecosystems is discussed in detail with abundant data and visual material."

On this occasion, a micro-exhibition has been set up in the National Library.
