    Between Cousins: A Conference on Translations Between Norwegian and Icelandic

     

    Please note that due to cancellations, there will be changes to the program below and the conference will run from 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM.

     

    Saturday, December 7, 2013 at 10:00-16:00 in the National Library, lecture hall

     

    Agenda

    10:00 AM: Norwegian Ambassador to Iceland, Dag Wernø Holter, opens the conference

    10.15 am: Margit Walsø (chair of NORLA (Norwegian Literature Abroad): lecture on trends and directions in contemporary Norwegian literature (in Norwegian)

    11:00: Helene Uri (writer and professor of linguistics): about her own experience of having her novels translated: "Å bli oversatt: en pur glede?" (in Norwegian)

    11.45: Sylfest Lomheim (Former chairman of the Norwegian Language Council and author of a textbook on translation studies, Omsetjingsteori ). Lecture on texting and metaphors (in Norwegian)

    12:30: Lunch break: Possibility to purchase food in the library cafeteria

    1:15 p.m.: Gauti Kristmannsson: "The North reinvented. The revival of Nordic literature in the 18th century with good help from Scotland" (in English)

    2:00 PM: Panel discussion on translations and translated books (in Nordic languages)

    Conductor: Dagný Kristjánsdóttir.

    Participants: Einar Ólafsson, Margit Walsø, Sigurður Svavarsson and Úlfar Bragason.

    3:00 PM: Delivery of book donations to the University Library

    Light refreshments provided by the embassy
