
On Friday, October 21st, from 2-5 p.m., the exhibition "Novelty Awakens Within Me" was opened at the National Library. The exhibition features illustrations by Yuri M. Ignatiev for the novel Eugene Onegin by the Russian national poet Alexander S. Pushkin.
Program for the opening of the exhibition:
Addresses: Ingibjörg Steinunn Sverrisdóttir, National Librarian, and Anton V. Vasiliev, Ambassador of Russia to Iceland. Presentations: Árni Bergmann, writer and Russian scholar, and Áslaug Agnarsdóttir, translator, who discussed Pushkin in Iceland.
Poetry performance: Olga Markelova, Russian poet and translator.
Introduction to the novel Eugene Onegin: Rebekka Þráinsdóttir, teacher at the Russian Department of the University of Iceland.
There was also an open workshop of experts from the Russian State Institute of Culture in the Pushkin National Park. They demonstrated calligraphy with a quill pen of quotes from "Eugene Onegin" in Russian and Icelandic and graphic printing of portraits of Alexander S. Pushkin.
The exhibition of Yuri M. Ignatiev's illustrations for Pushkin's Eugene Onegin will be open until December 31st.
The event is supported by the Embassy of the Russian Federation, the National Library of Iceland – University Library, the Mikhailovskoye State Cultural Institute, which is a literary, historical and natural history museum dedicated to Alexander S. Pushkin (Pushkin National Park), and the State Scientific Library of the Pskov Region.
