Jón Vídalín - 300 years remembrance

On the occasion of the three-century commemoration of Jón Þorkelsson Vídalín (1666 –1720), a mini-exhibition has been set up in the library. The exhibition includes many of Vídalín´s books like the Vídalínspostilla. The exhibition also includes recipes for three manuscripts by Vídalín and a recent two-volume work, a collection of Vídalín's writings and his biography by Torfi K. Stefánsson Hjaltalín.

Jón Vídalín was an influential teacher and. He is best known for Vídalínspostilla, a book with one sermon for each holiday of the year, intended for reading at home. The Vídalínspostilla was one of the most read books in Iceland for two centuries and had a significant influence on Icelandic culture, religion and literature until the 20th century. The exhibition runs until 31 December.
