The National Library Main Building (Þjóðarbókhlaða) offers first class facilities for studies and research as well as easy access to library materials, both in electronic and printed form. The library operations are on four levels. Here we provide information on facilities and collections on each level.
On the first floor we find the Icelandic National Collection, Manuscripts and the Women’s History Archive.
On the second floor there is the service desk, circulation/reference service, writing centre of the UI and working facilities for groups.
The Library café is located on the 2nd floor of the Main Library (Þjóðarbókhlaða) and seats about 100 people. The library café offers a variety of food and drink. On offer is a variety of services such as coffee or lunch for a meeting place, afternoon receptions and/or a banquet at the end of a meeting.
The Lecture Hall offers technology and facilities to hold lectures and meetings and there are 80 seats. Information on renting prices are listed in charges and fees.
On the booking website of the Library one can book a room on the 3rd and 4th floor. Rooms seat 6-10 people.
On 3rd and 4th floor there are 26 study rooms which are first and foremost intended for scholars, students working on advanced degrees and others that are working on specific projects and need to use the Library material for this purpose.
There are 150 lockers for use by guests to store their working documents. Keys are delivered at the service desk at the 2nd floor against showing a library card and payment of security deposit.
