Hagþenkir, the Association of Non-fiction and Educational Writers in Iceland conferred it´s special award for academic work of outstanding quality in 2022 to Hjalti Pálsson for Byggðasaga Skagafjarðar, the history of the Skagafjörður region, in ten volumes. The publisher is Sögufélag Skagfirðinga, the History Society of Skagafjörður.

Hagþenkir´s Accreditation Council states:

"A comprehensive multi-volume work, written with knowledge and supported by a variety of sources together with a large number of photographs."

For this occasion, a mini-exhibition has been set up at the National Library.
