„Hlíðin mín fríða ("Integer vitae")“ – Sigurður Skagfield

Sigurður Skagfield tenor was born at Litla-Seyla in Skagafjarðarsýsla on June 29, 1895. Skagfield studied singing in Copenhagen and also in Dresden and in other cities in Germany. He had concerts in  the Nordic countries and was a singer at the Opera House in Oldenburg for a while. Skagfield stayed for a few years in the United States, where he held concerts with a good reputation. He also had concerts in Reykjavík, Akureyri and elsewhere in Iceland. Sigurður Skagfield died on September 21st. 1956.

In 1926 Sigurður recorded the songs "Hlíðin mín fríða (“Integer vitae”)" and "Skagafjörður" on a 78-rpm record in Hamburg. Polyphon released. Helge Bonnén played on a grand piano. The song is by Friedrich Ferdinand Flemming (1778-1813) and the poem by Jón Thoroddsen (1818-1868). Sigurjón Samúelsson, a record collector from the farm Hrafnabjörg in Ísafjarðardjúp in the Westfjords, kept a great deal of attention on Skagfield and this version is now on an exhibition of Sigurjón's record collection in the National and University Library.
