Icelandic Language Day is celebrated each year on November 16, the birthday of the poet Jónas Hallgrímsson.

The information website of the National and University Library of Iceland about Jónas Hallgrímsson (jonashallgrimsson.is) was opened on his birthday on November 16, 2006. To mark this year, we‘ve published an updated website with a new look and interface that is more suitable for smart devices.

The website seeks to honor the memory of Jónas, promote his works and make them accessible. Among other things, you can read Jónas poems and stories and read detailed bibliographies, research materials and other manuscripts, but at the Library a lot of material related to Jónas Hallgrímsson is preserved.
