The Institute of History at the University of Iceland celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2021. On the occasion of the anniversary, an exhibition was opened in the National Library on Thursday 2 September about the institute's history and activities. At the opening of the exhibition, Guðmundur Jónsson, ex. Director of the Institute of History, Lilja Alfreðsdóttir, Minister of Education and Culture and Jón Atli Benediktsson, Rector of the University of Iceland gave speeches. In addition, Helgi Þorláksson, ex. professor of history gave a lecture about pioneers of the the Institute of History and finally the president of Iceland, Guðni Th. Jóhannesson, opened the exhibition.
