IRIS, the Icelandic Research Information System, was formally opened 15 June in the Library. IRIS, the Icelandic Research Information System, was formally opened 15 June in the Library. Addresses were delivered by Sara Stef. Hildardóttir, project manager of IRIS who opened the website, Berglind Fanndal Káradóttir, project manager at RANNÍS, Ingibjörg Steinunn Sverrisdóttir, National Librarian and Áslaug Arna Sigurbjörnsdóttir, Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation.

The research portal shows the research activities of Icelandic institutions participating in the consortium across the country. The National and University Library of Iceland is responsible for operating and supervising the system on behalf of the Ministry of Education. IRIS provides a public platform to examine research activity across institutions and the social distribution of research knowledge created in Iceland. Contributions and collaborations of researchers, institutions and disciplines can be viewed on a domestic and international level using the portal. The IRIS information system is under constant development and will change as the project progresses.
