This year marks the 300th anniversary of the birth of Reverend Björn Halldórsson (1724-1794) from Sauðlauksdalur. Björn Halldórsson was amongst the most enlightened men of his time in terms of his attitudes towards agriculture and livestock husbandry. Björn wrote an instruction book for housewives around 1780, which was published in print in 1843 in Búnaðarrit Suðuramtsins. In the author's view a good housewife should be pious and without superstition, she should take good care of the home, and be a decent, good and supportive wife to her husband. She should also instruct their children in good behaviour, familiarise them with different kinds of food and conditions, show them how to respect their parents, and teach them how to read and perform basic tasks. Arnbjörg is in a way an analogous to Björn Halldórssons´s Atli, which was a book for young men who were starting farming and was published in 1780. The manuscript Lbs 2405 4to is in Björn's own handwriting.
