Örn Hrafnkelsson appointed as National Librarian

The Minister of Culture, Innovation and Universities Logi Már Einarsson has appointed Örn Hrafnkelsson to the position of National Librarian. A total of 15 applications were received for the job.
Örn will take over the position of National Librarian at the end of the month at the same time that Ingibjörg Steinunn Sverrisdóttir retires after a long and successful career at the National and University Library of Iceland.

Örn has a B.A. and M.A. degree in history and an M.P.A. degree in public administration from the University of Iceland. Since 1993, Örn has worked at the National and University Library of Iceland. At first as a librarian in the National Collection, but later as a subject manager and director of the Manuscript Collection. Since 2011, Örn has held the position of head of the National Collections and digital conversion conservation department of the National and University Library of Iceland. Örn is a big enthusiast of manuscript reading and publishing and has written a number of articles and papers on the subject.
