The sisters Unnur Stefánsdóttir (1912-2004) and Bentína Stefánsdóttir (1903-1965) established a  bookbinding workshop at Grjótagata 4 in Reykjavík centre in 1952. They soon became very respected among collectors, as many valuable books came to them for repair and binding. Unnur took care of the repairs and gilding, and Bentína took care of most of the bookbinding. Until 1960, they had not signed their books, like most Icelandic bookbinders. But in the years 1960-1965, books from them were marked U&B, and US after Bentína's death. Unnur continued to run the bookbinding workshop alone until 1998 and also took care of the bookbinding. In an article about the sisters' bookbinding workshop in the newspaper Tíminn in 1962, it is stated that book collectors that had their books repaired by Unnur said that there was an amazing "healing power" in her fingers. No matter how badly the book was damaged, Unnur  would "cure it´s most ailments." Unnur bound the epic Finnish poem Kalevala in 1957 with great artistry. The book is dedicated to the Finnish Consul Eggert Kristjánsson. It is in the bookbinding collection of the National and University Library of Iceland together with other books that the sisters Unnur and Bentína bound. Kalevala bound by Unnur Stefánsdóttir is the highlight of the month of April in the library on the occasion of the Nordic bookbinders exhibition that will open at the library in April.
