Morgunblaðið

Morgunblaðið was first published on the 2nd of November 1913 and thus celebrates its centennial  this year. The paper stores extensive material  on events as they happened and the history of the Icelandic nation. It has been accessible in the National Library, now the unified National and University Library,  from the beginning. Until 1980 it was bound in the library´s bindery. Early in 2000 the NULI presented to Árvakur, the paper‘s publishing house, its intention to film Morgunblaðið and publish it on the website timarit.is and right from the beginning  cooperation was welcomed on both sides.  The web timarit.is was made accessible to the  public in the spring 2002,  but an agreement to digitally film the paper up to the year 2000 was made in 2003. The project  took 3½ years. An agreement on regular delivery of pdf-files  for the ensuing years was made in 2008. The daily newspaper, Morgunblaðið, is now accessible on the web from its first day of publication, November 2nd 1913 until the end of 2009; material published is 1.119.411 pages including its Sunday special edition, Lesbók Morgunblaðsins.
