Manuscripts and private archives
The Manuscript Collection is located on the 1st floor of the building. It houses around 15,000 manuscripts and around 1,300 private archives. Records of the collection can be found on this page and you can also contact us with inquiries about materials in our collection. Data is retrieved twice a day from the museum's secure storage, and orders must be placed at 9:30 and 13:30. You can order by calling 525-5678, sending an email to handrit@landsbokasafn.is or visiting the site. You can also follow the museum's activities on the Manuscript Collection's Facebook page.
On the website handrit.is you can view part of the collection, registration information and images. On the website einkaskjol.is there is information about private archives in the manuscript collection. New material is constantly being added to this website. The manuscript collection also accepts manuscripts and any kind of private archives that people have in their possession. We encourage anyone who has old documents to contact us with their preservation in mind.
