Hagþenkir Award 2017

Exhibition in the National Library

Hagþenkir,  the Association of Non-fiction and Educational Writers in Iceland conferred on Wednesday 28 February it´s special award for academic work of outstanding quality  at a ceremony in the National Library to Steinunn Kristjánsdóttir for the book Leitin að klaustrunum – klausturhald á Íslandi í fimm aldir (The Search for Monasteries - monasteries in Iceland for five centuries, published by the Icelandic Society of History and the National Museum of Iceland. The resolution words of the Accreditation Council said about the book: An extensive and well-elaborated study that shed new light on the history of monasteries in Iceland. The author's narrative style gives the work an added value. Sverrir Guðjónsson performed music at the ceremony. On this occasion a small show has been set up, where, among other things, there are Steinunn's diaries, a small shovel and statue of holy Dorothy, found at the convent site in Viðey 1987. The exhibition is open until 10 September.
