Medúsa – a lecture and an agreement on publications and manuscripts

Thursday February 20, Benedikt Hjartarson, professor of Literature at the University of Iceland had a lecture at the Library about the surrealist group Medúsa, taking into account international activities of Surrealists in the 1980´s in connection with an exhibition about Medúsa in the lobby of the Library. Benedikt is among other things one of the editors of the book series A Cultural History of the Avant-Garde in the Nordic Countries, but in the forthcoming volume in that series there will be an article about Medúsa written by Úlfhildur Dagsdóttir. The event was in collaboration with the University of Iceland Research Laboratory of the Avantgarde.

At the same time, the members of Medúsa, Sjón, Jóhamar, Einar Melax and Ólafur J. Engilbertsson, submitted from Medúsa to the National Library, editions, manuscripts, posters, brochures and more and presented a new issue of the review Geltandi Vatn (Barking water). Þór Eldon and Matthías Magnússon could not be present. Ingibjörg Steinunn Sverrisdóttir National Librarian received the publications and manuscripts and an agreement was signed.
