The National Theatre of Iceland and the National and University Library of Iceland have formed a partnership in order to preserve invaluable recordings of plays – from the opening of the National Theatre in 1950 to present day – and to make them available in digital form. For this purpose the National Theatre has delivered the National Library thousands of recordings from the past few decades – including various recordings of events, plays and sound effects.
Upon delivery Ingibjörg Steinunn Sverrisdóttir, national librarian, and Magnús Geir Þórðarson, director of the National Theatre, signed a partnership agreement between the institutions which will be implemented in the coming years with the common goal to make this part of the Icelandic theater heritage more accessible to academics and the public.
