Arfur aldanna I-II - Hagþenkir Award 2021

Hagþenkir, the Association of Non-fiction and Educational Writers in Iceland conferred on Wednesday 2 March it´s special award for academic work of outstanding quality at a ceremony in the National Library. Aðalheiður Guðmundsdóttir received the award for the books Arfur aldanna I: Handan hindarfjalls and Arfur aldanna II: Norðvegur, published by Háskólaútgáfan. The recognition was given by the chairman of Hagþenkir, Ásdís Thoroddsen. The Accreditation Council, composed of five members from different disciplines, included Auðunn Arnórsson, Árni Einarsson, Halldóra Kristinsdóttir, Súsanna Margrét Gestsdóttir and Svanhildur Óskarsdóttir, who presented the council's reasoning, which states: “In Arfur aldanna I-II Aðalheiður Guðmundsdóttir readers' views on diverse and fascinating comparative material, from chronicles in Latin and Germanic heroic poems to carvings, weaving and figurines. It clearly summarizes the research of previous scholars (written in various languages) as it presents new ways of approaching this heritage, such as those that take into account theories of memory or of live transmission and the influence of audiences on the creation of historical material.” For this occasion, a mini-exhibition has been set up at the National Library.
