The National and University Library of Iceland recently became a member of the Europeana project entitled "Europeana - Newspapers". The purpose of the project is to gather information about the digitization and dissemination of newspapers, magazines and journals in the possession of European libraries. One of the aims of the project is, for example, to discuss latest information technology to improve the OCR-read text and latest techniques to analyze its content. What is working, among other things in addition to what usual search engines do, finding elements such as titles, words or phrases, identify persons and places names in the text and articles, and standardization of treatment and preservation of metadata.
