Nonni‘s Special Collection

The writer and Jesuit, Jón Sveinsson - Nonni (1857-1944) left Iceland as a child and lived abroad all his life. He is mostly known for his accounts on Nonni and Manni which are based on his childhood memories. He also wrote travel books about his trips to Iceland, to America and Japan. In 1987, Haraldur Hannesson, economist and librarian, donated to the National Library a commemorative collection on Jón Sveinsson. This was a common donation from Haraldur and the Jesuit cult. In this special collection there are most editions of Nonni’s works, in Icelandic and foreign languages, books and media clippings about him and photographs. Also, manuscripts, diaries, letters and notebooks that belonged to Nonni. The collection is in an excellent form; all manuscripts are hard bound and letters and pamphlets stored in special boxes.
