Audio-visual

The Audio-visual Department is located on the 4th floor of the Main Library (Þjóðarbókhlaða). The Department stores in an accessible form Icelandic sound recordings and movies which the Library receives through legal deposit, artefacts and photographs from Icelandic musicians and interviews from the Centre of Oral History. Furthermore, one can listen to a part of the sound recording in the Sound Library, hljodsafn.is.

Sound recordings

According to Law on deposits, the National Library receives for preservation all sound recordings that are published in Iceland; three copies of material that is published in tangible form and copying rights to web-publications. The purpose is twofold: to preserve permanently published sound recordings and to provide access to Icelandic cultural heritage.

Films

The Audio-visual department carries a selection of Icelandic and foreign educational films and feature films which can be borrowed for three days. The films that are not for circulation can be viewed in the Library.

Donations

The Audio-visual department of the National and University Library accepts donations which support the collection and are in line with the acquisition policy. Those who wish to bring donations to the Library must contact the Library in advance.
